Learning disabilities

Your child has now grown into an adult and you are having to face the future for them.  This future is worrying simply because you may not be there for them and you will need to trust someone to look after them as you would.

We understand these feelings. We also understand that having learning difficulties does not mean our clients cannot have their own interests in life and that they are not able to contribute to their own lives and the life of others.  Our ethos is to ensure that all of our service users with learning difficulties are not only well cared for but are given the ability to choose; to choose their own interests, their own daily activities, and that they feel part of our society.

Adults go out, go on holidays, enjoy relationships, enjoy music and life in general.  Our clients enjoy the same things; they go out as and when they want to, to day centres, theme parks, pubs, restaurants etc.  They do what they want to do whether it be having a lazy Sunday afternoon in front of the TV, playing a board game or even doing the washing up (we wish!!).  They get up at the time they want and share meals and activities together, thus making them feel part of a community.  Our staff will help them fulfil these desires and ensure they are safe in doing so, living their life at their pace.

We try to empower our service users to allow them a life without restriction, with joy, laughter and love.  This means a life with success, and sometimes sorrow.  Whatever disability they may have, it should not be a barrier to them accessing everything life has to offer.
