Activities

At Regal we believe that regardless of our age, we all need opportunities to express ourselves through our activities, whether it be having our hair cut in our preferred style, playing cards with our friends or going for a walk.  In our care homes, some activities will be supported by care staff, such as personal care, and others by catering and housekeeping staff, such as eating your choice of meals in a clean and tidy environment.  Your leisure activities, social life and personal interests will be supported by our activity organisers.  Recruited carefully for their enthusiasm, imagination and sensitivity, they adhere to the same values of dignity, choice, respect for the individual and privacy that characterise all aspects of our care.

Living with us

When you come to live in a Regal Care Home, you can expect to discuss your hobbies, interests and life experience with one of our activity organisers.  This information provides the basis for your own personal activity plan, which will be drawn up with your agreement.   This will include individual activities, such as reading and shopping, as well as small group activities built around common interests such as reminiscence, gardening and art.  Larger group activities that benefit us all are also undertaken, eg/ physical exercise, listening to music and social events such as barbecues, entertainments and birthday celebrations.

Maintaining Involvement

We will always actively seek the involvement your family and friends in our activities programme.  With your permission, we can share their invaluable knowledge of you to help us ensure that attention is paid to the things that really matter to you.  We aspire to have as many relatives and friends as possible visiting the home, attending events, helping with your care according to your wishes, and supporting the home through a Relatives and Residents committee.

You can expect the usual opportunities to feel part of the wider community in which you live, through outings to local events and places of interest, and through the presence of local community groups in the home, such as carol singing from the local church, or children from the local primary school interested in the history of the area.

You can also expect that important National events will be remembered.  You will be able to enjoy the pageantry of St George’s Day, the thrill of The Grand National and the sparks of Guy Fawkes Night, as well as less well known but equally enjoyable occasions such as National Pet Week, National Poetry Day, and National Older People’s Day.

'Me' Time

We also understand that your own personal time and space is very important.  You can expect to spend time in your room, if that is what you wish to do.  Helping you make your room as homely as possible with your plants, photos, cushions or wartime mementos is a pleasurable activity that our staff will enjoy sharing with you if you so wish.

We hope this has given you a flavour of life in our care homes.  You can expect to have as much fun, social contact and time to yourself as you like.  But the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so visit our homes and see for yourself.  You will be assured of a warm welcome.
