See for Yourself

Visiting the care home of your choice is highly recommended. You’ll get a good feel for the home as soon as you walk through the door. We have an open-door policy in all our care homes so you’re welcome to visit any care home whenever you like. It’s worth asking the care homes of your choice a few questions.

We’ve compiled a check list of key questions for you to ask:

Check List

  1. Is there a pleasant atmosphere in the home?
  2. Do the residents seem happy and relaxed?
  3. Are the residents involved in activities and do they have input into how the home is run?
  4. Do they have a say over their daily routines and care plans?
  5. Talk to the staff, do they seem genuinely interested and caring?
  6. Does the care home encourage residents to do as much as possible for themselves?
  7. Are personal possessions; furniture, pictures, plants, pets allowed in the home?
  8. Does the home have foreign language or sign-language capabilities?
  9. Can residents choose or prepare their own meals and eat privately if they wish?
  10. Are visitors welcome at any time and can they stay overnight locally?
  11. Is there access to a private telephone for making personal calls?
  12. Can residents choose to take a lie in, or do they have to get up at a particular time?
  13. Does the care home encourage activities, outings, and visits to the shops, theatre, or cinema?
  14. Is there local provision for religious needs?
  15. If your loved one has special dietary needs will they cater for this?
  16. Can residents choose their own dentist, chiropodist and optician?
